About Colin Peters

Since becoming a lawyer in 2012, my practice has focused on all aspects of criminal defense, including trials, investigations, appeals, record sealing, and requests for early release from incarceration. I have a wide range of experience both within and outside of the legal world that enables me to assist clients with a broad spectrum of legal issues.

I grew up on my family's farm in Lockbourne, Ohio, where I lived until attending college at Ohio State. In 2009, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Sociology and History. My degree is with Honors, and Research Distinction in Sociology. While in school, I began volunteering in local organizations working to expand access to higher education and advocate for the homeless.

I returned to Ohio State for law school and received my J.D. from the Moritz College of Law in 2012. While there, I was a Managing Editor for the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law and was recognized as a Public Service Fellow for my pro bono and volunteer work. I also interned at the Legal Aid Society of Columbus, the Ohio Consumers' Counsel, and the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. These positions gave me valuable experience in public service, developing client relationships, and navigating the federal criminal system.

After law school, I worked as an associate attorney for Samuel H. Shamansky Co., L.P.A., with a practice focused on criminal defense and appeals. During my time there, I conducted many jury trials in cases ranging from OVI to murder, and prepared briefs for appeals in cases across the state and in the Ohio Supreme Court. I remain 'of counsel' with the firm.

In 2020, 2021, and 2022, I was named an Ohio 'Rising Star' by SuperLawyers.

I started Colin Peters Law, LLC to further my practice as a solo attorney advocating for clients at all stages of the criminal process.
